You have questions – we have answers.
Q: What is COVID-19?
A: COVID-19 is a disease. “CO” stands for “corona,” “VI” stands for virus, “D” stands for disease, and “19” stands for the year “2019.’ This disease was first referred to as “2019 novel coronavirus” and may also be referred to as “SARS-CoV-2.”
Q: Can COVID-19 transfer to a person from surfaces?
A: Yes, according to the CDC, “It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes.
Q: Where can BIOPROTECT™ be used?
A: BIOPROTECT™ can be used on most all surfaces, porous and non-porous surfaces. BIOPROTECT™ can also be incorporated into the manufacturing processes of metals and plastics for antimicrobial surface protection.
Q: Does BIOPROTECT™ destroy bacteria?
A: Yes, it is a patented, revolutionary antimicrobial system that creates a microscopic shield on porous and non-porous surfaces to destroy bacteria.
Q: What services does BIOSHIELD GROUP provide?
A: We are a professional Sanitizing and Disinfecting Service that provides Commercial, Residential and Industrial entities with an exceptional standard of clean. Our services include proactive viral pathogen cleaning that helps ensure the disinfection of residences, restaurants, gyms, schools, hospitals, businesses and public spaces for the entire South Florida area. BioShield Group utilizes BIOPROTECT™, a revolutionary new product that follows to the sanitizing and decontamination standards set by the EPA, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Q: What is BIOPROTECT™?
A: BIOPROTECT™ is a microbiostatic non- leaching, non-poisonous antimicrobial surface protectant. This unique product is EPA registered as non-toxic, non- hazardous and USDA accepted for food contact surfaces.
Q: Is BIOPROTECT™ safe to use for disinfecting and sanitizing surfaces?
A: The BIOPROTECT™ System uses patented, EPA Registered technologies to modify surfaces, providing such surfaces with disinfection and durable long term protection that kills and inhibits the growth of problematic bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoans, viruses and other microorganisms that can inhabit many of life’s surfaces.
Q: How does the BIOPROTECT™ chemical work?
A: The active ingredient in BIOPROTECT™ forms a colorless, odorless, positively charged polymer that chemically bonds to the treated surface. It is best described as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the quaternary amine “sword” punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge “shocks” the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the “sword” is ready for the next cell to contact it.
Q: Does the coating give off gases during or after application?
A: No. it does not volatilize, dissipate, or leach onto other surfaces. Its chemistry polymerizes where it is applied and forms a permanent bond that essentially lasts the life of the treated surface. Normal cleaning will not remove the treatment, although it can be eventually abraded away.
Q: How long will the treatment last?
A: The life of a treatment depends on a number of different factors. Normally the treatment will last for up to 90 + days, but it is advisable in most cases to reapply after 30 days.
Q: Can the product be used on porous and non-porous surfaces?
A: Yes – it can be used on all surfaces, both porous and non-porous. This is a tremendous advantage over disinfectants which by law are only approved for hard, non-porous surfaces.
Q: How is the product applied?
A: The water-based product can be applied by trigger sprayer, pump up sprayer, back-pack sprayer and fogging.
Q: What is the difference between this product and other antimicrobials out in the marketplace?
A: Most commercial antimicrobials used are capable of providing a quick inhibition of bacteria and fungi (although some have a limited spectrum of effectiveness). Conventional products penetrate living cells and kill by way of poisoning the organism. They are designed to act quickly and dissipate quickly to avoid adverse effects to humans and animals due to their toxic ingredients. The BIOPROTECT™ coating takes a totally different approach. Like conventional antimicrobials it provides an effective initial microbial kill when it is applied, BUT, unlike the others, it also provides long-term control of growth on treated surfaces by creating a modified surface to make them antimicrobial.
Q: Is there regrowth after treatment?
A: Because of its unique chemistry, BIOPROTECT™ provides long-term protection against regrowth and future contamination on treated surfaces. Porous surfaces, which are contaminated below the surface, will occasionally experience some growth that breaks through a treated surface.
Q: Are there any safety concerns after application is complete?
A: The unique properties permit near permanent bonding to any surface to which it is applied. Furthermore, this product will not give off any gases, leach onto other surfaces, or lose its strength over time. As long as the surface is kept clean with normal cleaning procedures, the surface will continue to fight any microbial growth.
Q: What types of microorganisms does it work against?
A: BIOPROTECT™ kills and inhibits the growth of bacteria, viruses including Covid-19, fomites, mold, mildew, fungi and algae that can exist on many everyday surfaces. It is especially effective against odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew.
Q: Does this mean I don’t have to clean my surfaces as much or as carefully?
A: No. The product provides continuous antimicrobial protection that protects the surfaces. However, normal cleaning practices should be maintained
Q: Does it begin working immediately?
A: It begins to work as soon as the microorganism comes into contact with the protected surface. Under the right conditions, microbes on an untreated surface can double every 20 minutes!
